Finding just the right material for your countertops can be a LOT of fun.
We currently inventory about 1500 - yes, one thousand five hundred - pieces of stone including granite, quartz, onyx, limestone, marble and recycled glass. We also have the largest selection of Soapstone in Western Wisconsin. Our business and slab yard are tucked away in the sleepy destination town of Viroqua, Wi. When looking at slabs of granite, it's important to remember that they are the reslult of nature's artistic expression. Every piece is unique. In fact, one of our staff likes to refer to the stones as being like snow flakes - no two are exactly alike. Natural stones like granite will exhibit varieties of patterning such as flow, pooling, spots, "splochiness", large or small mineral/crystal formations or variations of fleck such as feldspar, copper, garnet and labradorite crystals. These variations are what cause people to fall in love with the beauty of natural stone.
Man-made quartz products like Cambria, Hanstone or Silestone will also offer variety in their quartz and pigment content but will have much less variation than some granites. It used to be that one of the advantages of quartz materials was their predictability. However, over the past number of years, quartz slab manufacturers have made great strides in manufacturing products that mimic natural stone. As a result, it's not uncommon for homes to feature a kitchen with quartz countertops that really make a WOW! statement. Now imagine the kitchen you can create by combining quartz tops with a granite island.
"Green" products are gaining more publicity and are viable options. At Elegant Stone Products, we focus on the Green attributes of the products we carry more than whether or not a product is labeled "Green". Why? Simply because being Green means something different to everyone who walks through the door. For example, one person may care more about a product that is 100% natural where another person may care more about the recycled content of a product. Even though we approach Green with this perspective, we do carry products that have received "Green stamps of approval" such as Greenguard(r), Greenguard for Schools(r), Cradle to Cradle, etc.
One thing you will learn is that in addition to there being over a thousand different colors of granite to choose from, many of them can be known by two to three different names. Fortunately our staff is familiar with many of them. In the event that we are not, our suppliers can always find the exact stone or something comparible. Quartz products are similar in the sense that many of the color pallets can be cross-referenced between brands.
With all that we can provide, there is still the chance that we may not have what you are looking for in our Viroqua yard. EDGE PROFILES:
Once you've selected the material that is just right for your project, you'll be pleased to know that we are capable of producing more than eight different "single dimension" edge profiles as well as laminated combination edges such as a Double Demi-Bullnose (creating a 2 1/2" bullnose edge). The bevel on our Bevel edge can be modified to almost any dimension and our Waterfall edge can be used upside down as a Cornice.
