Easy Care Tips

To get the longest life and preserve the beauty of your natural stone, follow these simple tips:
Coasters: Use coasters under all glasses, particularly those containing
alcohol/citrus juices.

Trivets: While many stones can withstand heat, the use of trivets or
mats is recommended. WARNING: Extended periods of heat on
counter tops can cause stress to the stone. Avoid using slow
cookers, roasters, lefse griddles, etc. directly on the counter tops.
Put these types of appliances onto a large, thick cutting board.

Spills
: Blot spill with a paper towel immediately. Don't wipe the area, it
will spread the spill. Flush the area with water and mild soap and rinse
several times. Dry the area thoroughly with a soft cloth. Repeat as
necessary.

Cleaning: Clean stone surfaces with a mild solution of plain fresh
clean water and a couple drops of a good quality de-greasing dish
soap. After washing down the surface, dry with a lint free towel. This
step is very important if you have hard water or are prone to hard water
build up. Also, like any item in your home, an excessive concentration
of cleaner or soap may leave a film and cause streaks.

Other Cleaning Products: There are many other cleaning products
available that are made just for cleaning stone surfaces. Please follow
manufacturers directions if you choose to use these products.

Products containing lemon , vinegar or other acids will dull or etch
stones. Scouring powders or creams often contain abrasives that may
scratch your stone. Also, do not use ammonia or bleach on your stone
counter tops.

Many commercially available rust removers such as laundry rust stain
removers & toilet bowl cleaners contain trace levels of hydrofluoric acid
(HF). All stones, including granite and quartzite, will be damaged if
exposed to HF.
